What to Wear (and Bring) on a Bike Tour in Cape Town

No matter where your Cape Town cycling adventure takes you: through vineyards, along the coast, or into the city streets, you’ll want to be dressed and prepped for comfort, fun, and safety. This guide covers what to wear and bring for each of our tour types: Mountain Bike, EBike, Road Bike, and Cruiser Bike. Scroll to your ride or read it all if you’re still deciding.

What to Wear on a Mountain Bike Tour

  • Think: Trail-Ready, Comfortable, Weather-Aware

Whether it’s a gentle trail or a bit of a climb, you’ll want flexible, breathable gear. You’ll be riding through vineyards and dirt tracks, expect a little dust and adventure.

    Wear: - Active or gym-style shorts/leggings
    - Breathable top or cycling shirt
    - Closed shoes with grip (trainers or hiking shoes are best)
    - Cap or buff for under your helmet for sun protection (we provide the helmets, so don’t worry about that!)

    Bring:
    - Sunscreen & sunglasses
    - Windbreaker or rain jacket (weather dependent)
    - Small backpack or waist pack for your personal belongings
    - Camera - to get picks of the awesome views!

What to Wear on an EBike Tour

  • Think: Casual Meets Active - with Hills in Mind

EBikes give you a boost, but you’ll still be pedalling through vineyards and undulating terrain. Wine tasting is part of the fun, so dress for comfort and flexibility.

    Wear:
    - Activewear, gym-style clothing, or stretch-fit pants
    - Closed shoes with decent grip
    - A breathable top or cycling shirt

    Bring:
    - Sunglasses, sunscreen
    - Layers if it’s chilly in the morning
    - A small backpack or hip bag for your essentials
    - Camera - always essential to snap pics of your favourite wines!

What to Wear on a Road Bike Tour

  • Think: Performance and Weather-Ready

Our road bike tours are faster-paced and best suited to cyclists who’ve ridden on the road before. If you’ve got the gear, bring it. If not, we’ve got tips.

    Wear:
    - Proper cycling kit (jersey + padded shorts) if you have it
    - Lightweight cycling gloves
    - Road cycling shoes (or closed sports shoes)
    - Sunglasses, sunblock

    Bring:
    - Snack or energy gel if you’re used to refuelling with your preferred brand
    - Lightweight layer for wind or early morning starts

What to Wear on a Cruiser Bike Tour

  • Think: Casual, Comfortable, Weather-Ready

Our cruiser tours are slow, scenic, and social, no Lycra needed. You’ll be riding upright through Cape Town’s streets, with plenty of stops and photo ops.

    Wear:
    - Comfortable activewear or casual clothes you can move in
    - Closed shoes (trainers/sneakers are ideal)
    - A light jacket or windbreaker in cooler months
    - Sunglasses + sunblock

    Bring:
    - Small bag or backpack for your personal belongings, as you’ll be cycling through the city.
    - Your camera for the views and landmarks!
